Reviews about High Sierra Electric & Generators

Well, this is first time I've written a review, EVER!
But, the action of the owner of High Sierra warrants a few minutes of my time hoping that I can bring a little awareness to the rest of the public.

    (BE WARNED)

A little background. I've been in construction for 29 yrs & owner for 17 yrs. I'm use to dealing with extreme personalities concerning the good and bad in people.

1 month ago I called and spoke with the owner concerning one of my diesel generators, failing. I disclose all pertinent details (10-12 year old 5000w ETQ diesel generator. Used during power outages @ the house) At the time, the owner was knowledgeable, friendly, and knew that the company (ETQ) had gone out of business. Also, letting me know that the parts are still made in Chine and readily available, as well as how he has a diesel specialist which could fix the unit.
3 weeks later I called and let him know that I would like to bring it in and I'm 1 hour away. He stressed that I needed to be there by 4pm. We got there just before 4.
Well, after arriving his disposition change drastically!
It was as if, I was now speaking with an entirely different person.

1st - Arrival at his shop:
With great disdain directed towards me. He explosively said "I'm not going to work that generator, take it away. There are fuel leaks everywhere, and I don't work on units that old". Multiple times I had to reiterate the fuel on the unit was due to spilling out from the top fuel cap because of the windy roads coming up to his shop and I had also mentioned the age of the unit on the phone.

After considering my back surgery 2 weeks prior, the 2 hour round trip and my vested time. I proceeded to try to talk him into taking the unit. I had to practically beg him to try to trouble-shoot the generator.

    2nd - Cost:
With reservation, he agrees to take the unit. But hits me with a $119 per hour rate @ a 1 hour min.

Talk about feeling like you're being taken advantage of. What a A-hole! A mechanic at a f-ing dealership costs less per hour.

    3rd - Pickup:
I receive a phone call on Friday, 5 days after I dropped it off. As he explains "They tried my battery and theirs. The starter seems to be failing, and we also remounted the linkage'. He continued "you should throw the unit in the water and he should have never taken it in the first place. What do you want to do with it?". I said "I'll come pick it up". He said "get it asap. Pick up and drop off are between 8:30 & 9 am Monday thru Friday"

Long story short, due to his dogmatic way he expressed "GET IT ASAP". I went up there the following business day / Monday even though there were concerns about weather / snow over the weekend. Over Sunday night, 2 inches of new snow had fallen (No Big Deal). So, to meet his strict "pick up & drop off" time frame, I had to start driving @ 7:15 am, 45 minutes before his shop opened. At 8, I called. Talk about waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Because of the 2 inches of snow, he wanted me to turn around, even though I was 10 minutes away. With a couple of additional derogatory comments towards me, he said "You'll find the generator outside" and hung up on me.

We found the generator outside just as he said.
And, it appears as if the ONLY work performed was, attempting to start the unit with 2 batteries and mounting the linkage.

BUT, WITHOUT ADJUSTING THE LINKAGE CABLE!!! HOW CAN YOU START A GENERATOR, CAR OR, ANY OTHER ENGINE WITHOUT ADJUSTING THE LINKAGE CABLE!! MORE OR LESS, NOTHING MORE WAS ATTEMPTED IN TROUBLE-SHOOTING THE GENERATOR.

    i have two closing statements:
    - What was his f-ing deal / concern about picking up the generator if I was the one willing to drive 1:15 minutes (1 way) in 2 inches of snow! And, all he needed to do was,,, push the stupid generator 4 feet out the door.
    Nothing More!
    - Furthermore, that was the worst $119 dollar's I think that I have ever spent! I strongly recommend that you find a different generator repair person / electrician.
